Your game should see the vJoy device as an actual joystick. vJoy installs a virtual, 'joystick' that we can talk to through the plugin. So, why did we do this? Well, we need *something* to show up in the device list to control. You should get a success message at this point plus a little Windows sound effect indicating a device was added. The vJoy author is working on getting the driver all signed and shiny. For the rest of you, this software has been around for a long time and I trust it enough to just plow on through. If this bothers you, it's time to bail out. If you are going to use the plugin, you're going to need it. It's OK to click, 'Install the driver software anyway'. You may or may not get a Windows Security message at this point stating that the driver has not been signed/cant verify publisher/etc. You really only need the, 'vJoy Configuration application', but the other two will be really handy when setting up your profiles. Just select all the companion applications. Go to downloads and then click the big, green, 'download' button in the middle of the page. Next, go and download the very fine application/driver package called, 'vJoy' (this plugin will not work without the supplied driver it installs). So at the moment I set 2 buttons for Autopilot heading up and down, and a couple of knobs as axis for elevator trim and for the yaw (my joystick only has roll and pitch). The only limitation is that I had to create a virtual joystick in order to have an input for x-plane, and the virtual joystick only has axis or buttons, no way to set up a knob going 0 to 360 (for example for heading). Just download the utility called ControllerMate (not free, but you can use it without registering, I still haven't found the limitation with unregistered product) and spend half an hour to understand how to configure your buttons and knobs. I'm afraid I haven't done my homework well before posting: I have actually found a way to use those kind of control surfaces as control surfaces for x-plane.
